There are a number of ways to lock your Windows 10 PC, including the popular Windows key + L combination, but what if your Windows key is damaged and you still want to lock your PC? Make a shortcut on your desktop!
In this How-To, I’ll show you how to build a desktop shortcut to lock your Windows 10 computer.
You may watch a video on how to create a desktop shortcut to lock your Windows 10 PC. Otherwise, proceed to the next step and follow along.
Begin by right-clicking on an empty area on your desktop, which will bring up a menu. Left-click on “shortcut” from the submenu after hovering your mouse pointer over the “New” option.

The “Create Shortcut” window will appear once you click the shortcut option. In the “Type The Location of The Item” text box, copy or type the following command, then click the “Next” button.
Rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

Give your new shortcut a name in the next box that appears after clicking Next. Give it a name that corresponds to its functions so you know what it performs. In the “Type A Name For This Shortcut” box, type the name, then click “finish.”

The shortcut will now appear on your desktop as seen below.

By double-clicking the shortcut you just generated, you may now lock your Windows 10 PC.
